Bobby Frey and Trey Epich recently fished the Under Armour College Bass National Championship on the Arkansas River in Little Rock, Arkansas. They got to fish out of a brand new 2009 Triton 20X3 with a Mercury Optimax 225 provided by Cliff Brown at Texas Boat World in Harker Heights.
Bobby and Trey had a great showing finishing 7th overall and only missing the final Sunday by about 6 ounces. Their day 1 weight was 5 pounds 6 ounces, putting them in 12th place. All of the fish came on Strike King Sexy Shad crankbaits series 4S. After day 2, Bobby and Trey made a move with a weight of 8 pounds 5 ounces. They caught 2 fish on a jig, one on a crankbait, and a small spotted bass on a rattlesnake. Their 2 day total weight was 14 pounds 11 ounces. Fishing was pretty tough because the flow of the river was very slow. For Full results vist the Under Armour National Championship Results Page.
The tournament will be aired on ESPNU in August.

OU-Texas Showdown:

Billy Waldschmidt and Travis Ledger fished the National Championship held on Lake Lewisville in Dallas, Texas. The fishing was tough because of the high pressure from Bass Champs and the 140 boats fishing for The Championship. Billy and Travis were able to boat 4 fish for a weight of 9 lbs. 2 oz. on day one. They caught many fish that were under the 14 inch mark, but could not piece together a limit. On the end of day one, the Longhorns were sitting in 44th place.
On Day 2 the fishing got even tougher, both anglers were able to grind it out for 3 fish wieghing 8 lbs. 9 oz. The anglers caught their 3rd fish 10 minutes before they had to be back for weigh in. The majority of our fish were caught on wind blown points on Pro's Choice Eg'r Craw, Brush Hogs and 7" Power worms. SOB spinner baits also worked extremely well, as the team was able to catch a couple three pound fish using the Mini-me's during the tournament. Billy Waldschmidt was also able to land a 4 lbs. 5 oz. fishing using a mini me.
The team would like to give special thanks to Cliff Brown and the Texas Boat World Staff for allowing the team to fish in style from the decks of Triton boats. Congratulations to Billy and Travis for a strong finish! Check out the collegiate national championship page for the full story and results.

The Texas Bass Team fished in the CBFC regional Lone Star Spring Breakout event held Saturday March 14, 2009 on Stillhouse Hollow. The weather wasn't cooperative with the fishing as a cold front had just blow in leaving the temperatures low and the humidity and precipitation high. It was a major shock from the 80 degree days the week before. The fish were shallow despite the cold weather. The team sent 2 teams to fish in the tournament finishing 19 and 22. Travis Ledger caught the big fish for the team, a 5 and a half pounder, but he and his partner Nathon Richardson were unable to piece together a limit of fish. Billy and Bobby were able to peice together a limit but were unable to find any kickers. Visit Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship's website for the Results.

We had a small team tournament on Lake Austin this past Saturday. The weather didn't cooperate with our efforts as the winds were howling. Fish were caught on texas rigged baby brush hogs, watermelon flukes, shakey head and senkos. Former member Bradley Bell was able to come out and help the team out with boats, and we extend our thanks to him (pictured below on the far right with the big fish of the tournament.)
Results:

2. John, Trey, Charlie, Jeff & David 5 fish - 8 lbs 8 oz

The first ever FLW College Fishing event was held on Lake Falcon this past weekend, January 17th, 2009. The University of Texas represented itself well with 2 teams in the top 10, and 1 finishing in the top 5 qualifying them for the Regional Event in November on the Red River. Conditions improved through the day as the cold front that had blown in earlier in the week had blown off and it warmed up in the afternoon a little before the weigh in. The fish were biting S.O.B. Tilapia spinnerbaits and Pro's Choice brush hogs. Congratulations to Billy Waldschmidt and Bobby Frey for finishing Fourth! They won $1500 for the club and $1500 for the University.
